The end of this month will mark THREE YEARS since I quit my 9-5 to start BRAID & WOOD.

It’s hard to believe. And while this picture shows me with a big cheesy grin, I can assure you that not every day has been filled with big smiles. I’ve always been really good at pretending like I have it all together. 😉

The truth is, the last 3 years have been SO damn hard. Growing BRAID & WOOD has been uphill the entire way. A lot of the time I’m tired and frustrated and unsure and scared and angry that this isn’t EASIER. I can get so overwhelmed and find myself in a dark place thinking, “I just can’t do this anymore.”

BUT and there is a big BUT coming…MOST DAYS (just enough) I’m so freaking on fire for what I’m doing and what I’ve built. Man have I made some mistakes but I’ve made some pretty awesome decisions that I’m proud of too. And I’ve learned some tough lessons from the fumbles along the way.

Here’s the thing, there are no shortcuts, there’s no 10 step seminar that’s going to teach you all the secrets to running your own business. I once saw an ad that said, “Start your own successful business in 10 easy steps,” and I basically threw up. What a huge effing lie.

Ten steps huh, that’s all it takes for success?! If you’re in this with me then you know….the steps…they never ever end. Oh, AND there’s all these crazy surprise steps that pop out of no where along the way that you’ve never even seen before and you’ve got to figure out how to navigate those too! HORAY!

You climb & you climb and you keep climbing and just when you think you can’t take another step, you do.

And it’s not just running a business but really anything in life that’s really WORTH IT, it’s going to be hard. You’re going to have moments when you think or maybe even say out loud, “I can’t do this anymore.” That’s okay.

I see you. I feel it too. We’re all on this damn staircase together. So take a break, grab someone’s hand, ask for help, or cheer someone else on. I’ve got this and you’ve got this too. ❤️
